Albert Herkelman (Landscape Artist)
Born 1945- Schiedam, Holland
Compared to other countries the Netherlands have always had a lot of artistic talent, and Albert Herkelman carries on this tradition. He was admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam from 1962 – 1966.
It was not until 1980 that Albert decided to study the work of Barend Cornelis Koekkoek (1803-1862). His fabulous technique and romantic style appealed to Herkelman. Koekkoek had learned his trade from among others, Daiwaille who became famous and settled in Cleves, Nijmegen.
Like a modern day Charles Leickert or Andreas Schelfhout, the work of Albert Herkelman reflects the Dutch Golden Age of traditional canal scenes and romantic woodland landscapes.
His romantic style, quality and exceptional craftsmanship have made Albert’s work the centre of many exhibitions throughout Europe. With few paintings coming from his easel each year his work will only become more collectable.
