Biography: Ieva Baranovska

Born in Latvia, having lived in the UK since 2001, Ieva is a British Citizen residing in Lincolnshire. Ieva first discovered her keen interest and talent for art as a child with her father inspiring her to draw and paint simple geometric shapes.

growing up Ieva won many art competitions, including the Leonardo da Vinci grant
to study at the school of Arts and Design in Finland. She then moved to the Riga college of Arts
and Crafts where she studied Fashion Design. (1996-2001)

During her college years Ieva worked hard to improve her skills in drawing and painting
at various art studios. After graduating she decided to put her artistic career on hold to
travel and raise a family.
Finding time again to paint in earnest, Ieva started to take commissions and soon found
herself able to paint professionally.

Ieva believes that stillness is where creativity is found. This is why she meditates. Ieva
loves to paint in oils on canvas or board. Her subjects include portraits and still life
studies. She beleives that the pupose of her art is to pepetuate beauty of a single moment.
Ieva uses vibrant colours in her still life studies and likes to play with contrasting light.
It must be said that portraits are her favourite subject.
Every portrait starts with loose brush strokes and eyes, allowing the character to come through
the painting.
It’s not the subject alone that gives significance to a portrait, it is what she decides to
include and carefully choose to exclude.
